The Efem Method™ | Ethical Aesthetic Medicine in Istanbul
The Efem Method™
The Efem Method™ in Istanbul
A physician-led framework for ethical, personalized aesthetic medicine and long-term natural beauty.
Most aesthetic clinics begin with a treatment. We begin with a conversation.
We do not build treatment plans around procedures.
We build them around people.
Before discussing fillers, skin tightening, regenerative treatments, skin rejuvenation, or any other procedure, we first seek to understand the person sitting in front of us: their health, lifestyle, expectations, concerns, and story.

What Is The Efem Method™?
The Efem Method™ is Dr. Abdurrahman Efem’s physician-led consultation and treatment philosophy developed for ethical, personalized aesthetic medicine. It focuses on medical safety, facial analysis, root-cause diagnosis, natural results, and long-term planning.
Aesthetic medicine is still medicine. It is not simply beauty tourism, a cosmetic service, or a collection of procedures. Every recommendation is a medical decision, and every medical decision should be guided by science, ethics, clinical judgment, and the patient’s best interests.
This is why we do not begin by asking, “Which treatment would you like?” We begin by asking, “What are you hoping to achieve, why has this concern developed, and what is the safest, most appropriate way to help?”

The Six Principles of The Efem Method™
1. Understand the Person
Medical history, lifestyle, expectations, emotional wellbeing, and long-term goals all influence treatment decisions.
2. Identify the Cause
We do not simply treat requests. We identify the underlying reason behind the concern before recommending a procedure.
3. Analyze the Whole Face
Every recommendation considers facial harmony, anatomy, proportions, skin quality, movement, and aging patterns.
4. Build the Right Strategy
The right plan considers safety, timing, recovery, lifestyle, priorities, budget, and long-term goals.
5. Treat with Precision
Whenever possible, we choose the minimum effective intervention capable of achieving a natural, balanced result.
6. Preserve Natural Beauty
Beautiful results should still look natural years from now. We plan beyond a single appointment.
Why The Efem Method™ Exists
Modern aesthetic medicine has become increasingly procedure-driven. Patients often arrive asking for treatments by name because they have seen them on social media, heard about them from friends, or read about them online.
Lip fillers, Ultherapy, Morpheus8, collagen stimulators, exosomes, PRP, skin boosters, and regenerative therapies can all be valuable options for the right patient. But they are not the starting point.
They are possible solutions. The consultation should always begin with the problem, not the product.
Technology helps us perform treatments.
Judgment helps us choose them.
Devices are valuable tools. Injectables are valuable tools. Regenerative medicine is a valuable tool. But they remain exactly that: tools.
The physician, not the device, should decide what is appropriate. Technology should support medical judgment. It should never replace it.
Step 1
Understand the Person, Not Just the Face
Every patient arrives with more than a face. They arrive with a medical history, a lifestyle, personal goals, previous experiences, concerns, and expectations.
Before evaluating anatomy, we first seek to understand the individual. Because no facial assessment is complete without understanding the person behind it.
This patient-centred approach is further strengthened by Dr. Abdurrahman Efem’s background in clinical psychology, supporting a consultation process focused on communication, expectation management, and understanding the person behind every request.
More About Dr. Efem Education & ExpertiseMedical History Comes First
Aesthetic medicine is a medical discipline. That means every treatment begins with a careful medical assessment.
Why medical history changes aesthetic planning
Conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, vitiligo, connective tissue disorders, or other immune-related conditions may influence treatment planning. Having a medical condition does not automatically prevent aesthetic treatment. However, it may influence which procedures are appropriate, when they should be performed, and how they should be planned. When appropriate, we may collaborate with your treating physician or request relevant medical information to ensure treatment can be planned as safely as possible.
Lifestyle Is Part of the Diagnosis
Two patients with similar facial concerns may need completely different treatment plans because they do not live the same life.
Sleep quality, nutrition, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise habits, sun exposure, recovery capacity, and daily routines can all influence healing, collagen production, inflammation, and treatment longevity.
For example, a patient who exercises intensely or has a very active metabolism may respond differently to certain regenerative or injectable treatments. A patient with chronic sleep deprivation may require a different strategy than someone with strong recovery habits.
The face tells us where to look.
The conversation tells us what to treat.
Step 2
Identify the Cause, Not the Request
Patients describe symptoms. Physicians identify causes. This distinction changes everything.
Most patients arrive with a treatment already in mind. They may ask for lip fillers, skin tightening, under-eye filler, jawline contouring, collagen stimulators, exosome therapy, or the latest procedure they have seen online.
While these treatments may be excellent options for the right patient, requesting a procedure does not automatically mean it is the most appropriate solution.
Our responsibility is not to confirm every treatment request. Our responsibility is to understand why that request exists in the first place.
Why We Ask for Photographs Before Recommending Treatment
One of the most common questions we receive is: “Can you tell me which treatment I need?” or “Can I have a price before coming to the clinic?”
The honest answer is: not yet.
Before recommending a treatment or providing a quotation, we first need to understand the concern, review photographs, and determine whether the requested procedure is actually the most appropriate option.
A patient may request lower-face skin tightening when the real issue is mid-face volume loss. Another may request under-eye filler when the true concern is insufficient cheek support. Someone may ask for lip enhancement when the overall facial balance would benefit more from chin support or profile evaluation.
Without understanding the underlying cause, recommending a treatment would simply be guesswork.
And medicine should never rely on guesswork.
Sometimes the most appropriate treatment is different from what the patient expected. Sometimes it is less invasive. Sometimes it is less expensive. Sometimes the most ethical recommendation is no treatment at all.
Step 3
Analyze the Whole Face
The face should never be treated one area at a time. Every feature influences the others.
Our facial assessment evaluates proportions, symmetry, bone structure, facial movement, volume distribution, skin quality, aging patterns, profile balance, and masculine or feminine facial characteristics.
Natural beauty is rarely the result of one perfect feature. It is the result of balance.

Build the Right Strategy
A good treatment plan is not simply a list of procedures. It is a strategy.
After understanding the person, identifying the cause, and analyzing the whole face, we build a personalized plan based on medical safety, priorities, lifestyle, recovery time, treatment longevity, budget, timing, and long-term goals.
A patient preparing for an important event may need a different approach than someone planning a gradual one-year transformation. A patient with limited recovery time may need a different strategy than someone who can follow a longer treatment plan.
The most appropriate treatment plan is not always the biggest one.
It is the one that makes the most sense for the patient.
This is why two patients with similar concerns may receive completely different recommendations. Personalization is not a marketing word for us. It is a medical requirement.
Step 5
Treat with Precision
One of the defining principles of The Efem Method™ is restraint.
More treatment does not necessarily produce better results. Every procedure should have a clear medical indication and a clear aesthetic purpose.
Whenever possible, we choose the minimum effective intervention capable of achieving meaningful improvement while preserving natural facial expression and individual identity.
We do not overcorrect.
The goal is not to change the face, but to restore balance where appropriate.
We do not chase trends.
A treatment is not recommended because it is popular. It is recommended because it is suitable.
We protect identity.
The best aesthetic results make the patient look healthier, fresher, and still unmistakably themselves.
Our patients often hear, “You look healthier,” “You look rested,” or “You look great,” rather than “What have you had done?” That is the kind of result we aim for.
Step 6
Preserve Natural Beauty
Beautiful results should not only look good today. They should continue to look natural years from now.
For this reason, we see aesthetic medicine as a long-term relationship rather than a collection of isolated procedures.
Each treatment plan considers facial aging, skin quality, collagen support, lifestyle, treatment intervals, maintenance, and future needs.
Sometimes the best decision is to wait. Sometimes it is to perform less. Sometimes it is to recommend no treatment at all. Because preserving natural beauty is just as important as enhancing it.
Healthy Aging
The Efem Method™ Beyond Aesthetic Treatments
The Efem Method™ also forms the foundation of our long-term healthy aging and longevity vision.
We do not believe healthy aging should be reduced to isolated vitamin infusions, fashionable devices, or one-time wellness packages. True longevity requires a deeper relationship with the patient.
Our upcoming Long Beauty approach is being designed around minimum one-year patient relationships, including physician-led evaluation, sleep quality, nutrition, psychological support when appropriate, lifestyle planning, skin health, regenerative treatments, and long-term follow-up.
Not brighter devices. Not louder promises. A doctor who listens, understands, and builds a strategy with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why don't you recommend treatments immediately?
Because recommending a treatment without understanding the patient, reviewing photographs, and identifying the underlying cause would not reflect the standards of responsible medical practice. Every recommendation follows The Efem Method™.
Why do you ask about medical history?
Medical conditions, medications, autoimmune diseases, allergies, and previous procedures may all influence treatment planning. Aesthetic medicine is medicine, and patient safety always comes first.
Can lifestyle really affect treatment results?
Yes. Sleep, nutrition, stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and recovery can all influence healing and treatment longevity. They are important parts of our consultation.
Do you always recommend the treatment requested by the patient?
Not necessarily. We recommend the treatment that we believe is most appropriate after a comprehensive evaluation. Sometimes it is the requested treatment. Sometimes it is another option. Occasionally, we recommend postponing treatment or choosing no treatment at all.
Is The Efem Method™ suitable for international patients?
Yes. International patients can contact the clinic before travelling to Istanbul. The team may request photographs and basic medical information before consultation, and can guide patients about appointment planning, clinic location in Levent, and practical travel questions when appropriate.
