Why the Efem Method™?
When I first started practicing medicine, I thought great doctors stood out because of the treatments they performed. Today, I see it differently.
I believe great doctors stand out because of the decisions they make.
In aesthetic medicine, there are countless treatments available. Fillers, Botox, laser procedures, energy-based devices. Every year, new technologies are introduced.
But when a patient sits in front of me, my first question is never, “Which treatment should we perform?” The real question is much simpler: what does this person actually need?
Over the years, I have come to appreciate this more and more. Many patients arrive asking for a specific procedure. They have researched it online, seen it on social media, or heard about it from a friend.
There is nothing wrong with that. We all look for information before making decisions about our health. The challenge is that the treatment someone asks for is not always the treatment that will help them the most.
A patient may come in asking for tear trough filler, while the real issue is volume loss in the mid-face. Someone else may want a slimmer face, when improving skin quality would create a much better result.
And sometimes, after a complete evaluation, I recommend no treatment at all. That is also part of being a doctor.
Over time, I realised that I was approaching every consultation in the same way. First, I listened. Then I analysed the face as a whole. I reviewed the patient’s medical history. I tried to understand their expectations. Only after that did I decide whether a treatment would actually be beneficial.
We have been working this way for years.
First, we listen.
Then we understand.
Then we analyse.
Only then do we recommend what is truly needed.
One day, while discussing our approach as a team, we realised that this was more than a routine. It had become a method. That is how the Efem Method™ got its name.
We did not invent a new procedure. We simply gave a name to the way we have been thinking and practicing for many years.
Because I have never built treatment plans around procedures. I have always tried to build them around people.
Perhaps that is why patients are sometimes surprised when I recommend something completely different from what they expected. And sometimes, I recommend doing nothing at all.
I believe that is an important part of good medical practice. The goal is not to perform as many treatments as possible. The goal is to recommend the right treatment, for the right person, at the right time.
That is what the Efem Method™ means to me.
Understanding the person before the treatment.
Treatments will continue to evolve. Technology will continue to improve. But taking the time to understand the person before recommending a treatment... I don’t think that should ever change.
